Allergies

Allergies are commonly associated with the ear, eyes, and throat because of symptoms like hay fever and asthma. Many other types of allergens affect the skin and produce hives or rashes. The symptoms of an allergen depend on both the type of stimulus and the severity of the allergy. Treatment often comes in the form of medication, both prescription and OTC.Common Allergens:

  • Food: peanuts, seeds, eggs, milk, etc.
  • Latex
  • Toxins in plants: poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, etc.
  • Airborne particles: dust, pollen, etc.

Symptoms:

  • Nasal swelling
  • Sinusitis
  • Itching eyes
  • Constriction of airways/asthma
  • Sneezing, coughing
  • Pain in ears

Treatment:

  • Medication: antihistamines, glucocorticids, epinephrine
  • Vaccination
